The Prisons tab allows you to track info for each specific prison, including mailing addresses, physical addresses, and book/mailing restrictions at each prison. This is also where you can maintain the prison database by deleting prisons that don’t exist or by merging duplicate prisons.

Deleting Prison Records

Maybe a prison has closed, or you made a fake prison for practice or by mistake. They can be deleted. This is the nuclear option. This process is very involved and after typing out the many, many steps, I decided that the easiest way for people to do it is just to email me and I will do it for you.

Note that it is easier to just merge a prison into another prison instead of deleting it, following the steps below. I use a fake fictional prison (Shawshank Test Prison) for this.

Merging Prison Records: Step #1

Sometimes duplicate prisons are created and it’s confusing. This happens a lot when prisons are known by different names or just when someone makes a mistake. You can merge those records without losing any package records by clicking “Merge Prisons” on the Prison Record.

Merging Prison Records: Step #2

This is pretty self explanatory. Just type in the prison you want to merge. Note that the prison name you type into this box will replace the prison info for the duplicate.

Merging Prison Records: Step #3

This confirmation screen here shows what’s about to happen to the merged prisons. The prison on the left will be merged into the prison on the right. There will no longer be any listing for Shawshank Test Prison. The address in Emerald City will be lost forever to the sands of time; there will only be the address in Fake Town listed under Fake Prison #2.

The restrictions and sent packages from Shawshank will be transferred and listed from now on under the record for Fake Prison #2.

If this sounds OK to you, go for it. This cannot be undone. Now you have only one prison instead of two. If you merged the wrong one into another and need to fix some info, follow the instructions here to update the record.
